Cincinnati Burger Week

2015.07.20 BurgerToday is the beginning of Cincinnati Burger Week (July 20-26), and as a die-hard burger lover, I am READY. As a foodie in Cincinnati, there’s nothing more exciting than an epic week long of $5 burgers at some of the best local restaurants in town! If you’re new to Cincinnati’s food scene, or just curious, I have outlined my top burgers in town, and the places that I am most excited to try.Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint…There are over 20 places on the list, and we won’t be able to eat at all of them (that would be a burger for 3 meals a day, which, while it sounds appealing now….I’m not sure my metabolism could keep up), but we should definitely hit up the highlights.

For more information, I’m providing a link to the Yelp reviews for all of these spots. If you are looking for my reviews, you should check out my Best Burgers in Cincinnati List on Yelp. Happy eating fellow foodies!

A Few of My Favorite Bars in Cincy

2015.07.10 HPToday marks a day that I have been looking forward to for months…The beginning of MLB’s All Star Weekend here in Cincinnati! For those of us that live in the Queen City, this is a big freaking deal. Cincinnati, home of the Reds, is hosting the Home Run Derby on Monday and the All Star Game on Tuesday, and everyone who loves baseball will be here to celebrate this weekend. I am super freaking pumped about it, and plan to show as much Cincy pride as possible!

For those that are visiting from out of town, Cincinnati is unique in that each neighborhood has its own distinct feel and atmosphere (similar to NYC…The Upper West Side is very different from Greenwich Village, etc. etc.), and so it can get confusing for out of towners. One of my favorite Cincinnati Bloggers, Out+Outfit, posted an ASG guide for her neighborhood of Columbia Tusculum, and Baubles to Bubbles also posted her own list of things to do in Cincinnati for All-Star weekend. I thought I would add to that by writing up a short list of a few of my favorite bars in Cincinnati. Click the links to learn more and look for my Yelp reviews (Yelp name Jessi G.).

Changing my last name…Am I ready?

2015.07.09 Capones

This cross stitch I made sits on our mantle

Today I scheduled an appointment to get my marriage license at the Orange County Court House. Justin and I are getting married in California in less than 2 months, and shit is starting to get REAL.

They have a very convenient online form that allows you to schedule an appointment to either get your marriage license or to have a civil ceremony. It’s all very cold and formal. Then BAM! You get to the box that asks for your new last name, if you choose to change it…

Did you know that you change your last name when you apply for a marriage license?? I had no idea! I thought I would get married to Justin, then change my name a few months later when I need to renew my passport or something…But, no. Today, I had to make the decision if I was going to stay a “Goldberg” or become a “Capone”.

And, honestly, I was caught completely off guard.

Why I hired a wedding coordinator, even on a tight budget

My job used to be being a project manager and engineer for Procter and Gamble…One year ago, when I got engaged, I thought to myself, “Planning a wedding is going to be easy as pie…I mange scope, cost, and schedule every day at work for multi-million dollar projects! A wedding for 100 people is nbd compared to that.”

BOY, WAS I WRONG.

Ya’ll, I promise, even if you are super Type-A, you color code all of your notes, and you have spreadsheets for everything, planning a wedding is simply too much for the average person to handle! That is why I got a month of coordinator, and it was the single best investment I made in my wedding. Still not convinced you need one? Let me list the top three reasons to get a wedding coordinator: Continue reading

Recipe: Easy 5-Ingredient Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels

Happy Independence Day, fellow Americans! Justin and I threw a last minute BBQ at our house for a few friends, so I had to whip up an easy menu with what I had in the fridge. I came up with these super easy 5-ingredient buffalo chicken pinwheels, and they were a huge hit (anything with buffalo chicken AND puff pastry is going to be a crowd pleaser!). Try out the recipe and let me know what you think.

My cooking philosophy is that anything with over 8 ingredients is just too complicated. I like my food to be as simple as possible, for my sanity as the cook, and also to make Justin’s job easier as my dish washer. These buffalo chicken pinwheels are the perfect combo….They’re full of spicy tangy buffalo chicken flavor, and they’re wrapped up in a pretty package to impress your guests. Continue reading

Why I love my Birkenstocks

I am an old lady trapped in a 27 year old’s body. I go to bed at 10pm, I hate loud bars, and I love my comfy shoes.

Up until about 3 years ago, Birkenstocks were reserved for geriatric retirees and dated hippies. Then all of a sudden, the Olsen twins started wearing them around NYC, and suddenly Birkenstocks are being worn by every fashion blogger, and I LOVE IT.
